Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday adjourned the hearing of petitions against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen till October 10. A full bench of the ECP, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) retired Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza Khan conducted hearing of the case. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's lawyer challenged the ECP's jurisdiction over hearing the set of petitions seeking disqualification of Prime Minister.
PM's counsel Salman Aslam Butt said, "We will respond to the allegations but it should be decided first whether the Commission is eligible to hear the petitions or not". Speaking to media persons outside ECP building, PPP lawyer Latif Khosa alleged that the government is dictating the Commission. Imran Khan's lawyer said he accepts the authority of ECP and is ready to debate on the matter. Accepting the objection, the CEC remarked that the Commission would first deliver its verdict regarding jurisdiction of ECP on hearing of the case on the Panama leaks issue. CEC and Imran Khan's lawyer also exchanged harsh words.
