The Sindh Assembly on Monday adopted 'the Sindh Arms (Amendment) Bill, 2016 into law with a unanimous vote, making weapons and ammunition sales and purchase documentation and attestation mandatory in the entire province. In line with the legislation, no dealers can sell firearms or ammunition without verification of the purchaser's CINC and thumb impressions from the Nadra.
The law is aimed at registering each and every weapon in the province with a forensic test and will come into force at once for entire Sindh. The law that Sindh Senior Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Nisar Khuhro introduced in the house making the arms and ammunition trading documented with an official attestation with an aim to scale back the terrorism and target killings. Buyers will have to submit all credentials that the law has made mandatory with vendors before acquiring arms and ammunitions.
A vendor will now be required to carry out a test fire of the gun with two shots and submit the used bullet cartridges to the forensic laboratories. The law is expected to streamline the arms sells in the province. Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah conceded the education boards in the province were plagued with financial corruption but vowed to cleanse the menace. "There are still some good people working," he told the house in a response of a call attention notice by PTI's lawmaker, Khurrum Sherzaman Khan.
He assured the legislature that the government would continue its action in a bid to streamline the academic regulators. He said that the Anti-Corruption Department had raided the Board of Intermediate Karachi and arrested two officials. However, assistant controller has attained a bail, he said, adding that the Anti-Corruption had also seized 95 answer sheets.
New officials will be appointed at the board to replace those whose contracts have lapsed, he said, adding that the vacant post had been filled. "There is a problem of corruption in boards," he acknowledged, saying that "therefore the anti-corruption has raided. A fair action is going on. Those involved in corruption will be punished".
"The education boards will be cleansed from corruption to ensure fair marking. Those involved in malpractices will not be spared," the CM Sindh said and lauded the honest officials for their jobs. A girl student holding the first position in the intermediate exams belonged to a poor family, he said.
Earlier, Khurrum Sher Zaman highlighted that the degrees and certificates were being sold. He urged the government to remove shortcomings in the education system. The house also adopted a resolution with a unanimous vote to pay tribute to those killed during ARD movement between 1983 and 1986. The house was later adjourned to meet today at 10:00 am.
