As part of its digital payments transformation strategy, the Bank of Punjab has recently undertaken the facility of upgrading its payment cards infrastructure to the EMV chip based platform. The EMV conversion enables the bank to offer next generation banking products and services to its customers while securing payment transactions with enhanced functionality - card authentication, card holder verification and transaction authorisation.
Following the global migration trend, the State Bank of Pakistan has instructed all commercial banks to migrate their entire card base to EMV. The bank has partnered with Oberthur Technologies on the EMV issuance. Currently The Bank of Punjab is in a process of not only migrating its cards, but the entire payments eco system - Card Management System, POS, ATMs, and e-commerce - to EMV.
