A parliamentary panel has given one week deadline for resolving the Bhara Kahu Housing scheme issues and in case of failure strict action would be taken as per the Senate of Pakistan Rules and Regulations. Sub-Committee of Senate's Standing Committee on Housing and Works met here with convenor Senator Nauman Wazir Khattak in the chair. Earlier the committee members paid onsite visit to the project.
The committee took detailed briefing from the Ministry of Housing and Works, Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation, land owners, construction firm, NESPAK, and high-ups of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The committee members thoroughly reviewed the issues including levelling of land in mountainous and non-plain areas of the proposed housing scheme, 100 feet wide road from Expressway Angori Ada to Bhara Kahu Scheme, transferred land, possession, connection with Bahria bridge, land ownership, 1400 kanals of D-Block in Bhara Kahu Housing Scheme, Supreme Court judgements, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation, NESPAK objections, implementation of agreement of FGEHF with land owners and proposed lay out plan of the CDA.
The committee meeting turned into an open katchehri where convenor Senator Nauman Wazir Khattak, Members Committee Chaudhry Tanveer Khan and Sajjad Hussain Turi observing no development work on the spot by the society, outstanding amounts of land owners and non-availability of land to Housing Foundation said it seems that since 2009 little work was carried out for the government employees on getting plots with all residential facilities.
The committee directed the concerned to construct 7 percent granite 50 feet wide road while CDA bylaws should be strictly followed. The committee also directed the Foundation, land owners and CDA to hold meetings on daily basis and resolve all outstanding issues in a week time.
The committee will take decision in the meeting to be held on October 6, 2016. Senator Turi said that employees are waiting since long for the plots. Senator Tanveer said that Bahria representatives be called to next meeting of the committee and would be asked for giving access to the society. Tanveer offered to pay from his pocket for the construction of road, linking the society with Bahria Bridge. The committee convenor said that it was better to resolve the issue through talks as in case of failure under the Rules and Regulations of Senate of Pakistan strict action would be taken against the persons responsible.
