Two woman smugglers who were caught at Multan airport, with 14-kg of gold and 37,000 Saudi Riyals and 1000 UAE Dirhams, were given into the custody of customs authorities by the court on physical remand.
It may be recalled that Customs authorities on Thursday foiled a bid to smuggle gold and currency through a private airlines and seized 14 kgs of gold, 1000 Dirhams and 37,000 Saudi Riyals from the possession of two women identified as Sumaira Siddiqui of Pak Gate Multan and Haleema Riaz of Shad Bagh Lahore. Collector Customs Multan Dr Sarfraz Waraich told media men that customs intelligence have searched the bags and luggage of two ladies thoroughly and found 42 bangles and anklets (Kangan) weighing 14 kgs,37,000 Saudi Riyals and 1000 dirhams of Dubai total worth Rs 64 million. He said that a case has been registered against them on the charge of currency transfer and smuggling of gold. Now we are searching actual actors of this game .Briefing the local media men, Collector Customs Multan Dr Sarfraz Waraich said the Customs staff posted at Multan airport has foiled an attempt to smuggle a huge quantity of gold and foreign currency worth Rs 64 million at Multan International Airport.
He was addressing a press conference along with Additional Collector Ghulam Mustafa, Deputy Collector Abdul Mueed Kanju and Assistant Collector Faizan Badar. He told that the Customs staff intercepted two female passengers who were wearing gold bangles and anklets in traditional dresses. Both passengers were going to Dubai by flight No FZ-340 of Fly-Dubai. The staff found two female passengers, identified as Haleema Riaz wife of Muhammad Riaz, a resident of Shad Bagh Lahore, and Sumaira Asif Siddiqui, wife of Asif Siddiqui, a resident of Pak Gate Multan, having unusual behaviour.
The Customs have taken out comprehensive examination of their luggage of said passengers along with others in order to prevent smuggling.
