As part of its celebrations to mark the beginning of the 100th years of its establishment, the Government College Hyderabad cut a birthday cake here on Sunday and later took out a rally. Addressing the rally outside the press club the Sindh Education Minister Jam Mahtab Dahar praised the college's contribution of producing several luminaries who later in their lives played important role in different walks of life.
"The graduates of this college have not only won recognition and are contributing a lot in Pakistan but even in the countries of the developed world," he observed.
The minister assured that the provincial government would support the college to become an advanced institution.
He said that he had been informed about the financial problems being faced by the college and assured that the provincial government would assist the college to deal with its financial issues.
"Only those nations have attained the status of developed countries which have excelled in the field of education," he said while underscoring the importance of education.
"The education is like a backbone of society," he observed and emphasised on the need of giving primary to higher education to girls. He asked the teachers to dedicate themselves honestly to the cause of teaching. The Principal of Government College Hyderabad Dr Nasiruddin Shaikh, a number of educationists, college teachers and students, traders, doctors, engineers and many graduates of the college working in different professional fields joined the rally.
