The Met Office on Monday warned the farmers of pest and viral attacks on the cotton crops during the continuing hot and humid weather. The Met asked the growers to step up precautionary measures to protect the standing crop. It also urged those farmers replying on tube-wells to schedule irrigating their crops keeping in view the expected rainy weather. Farmers should control further weeds growth to stop any negative impact on the standing crops, it said, adding "The weeds removing practices should be started soon after expected rains".
It said that the farmers should take timely precautionary measures to protect their crops, livestock and other property from likely rains. "Farmers of cotton belt are advised to be aware of the adverse effects of stagnant water in the fields," it said. Rain-dust-thunderstorm is expected at scattered places in several parts of Punjab including Bahawalpur, DG Khan and Sahiwal besides light to moderate rainfall in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore after October 5. Light rainfall is expected at isolated places of Sindh from October 5. At scattered places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Malakand and Hazara Division, light rain is expected over the period.
In Balochistan, mainly hot and dry weather is expected in its most parts with light rainfall at isolated places in Kalat, Nasirabad, Sibbi and Zhob from October 5. Rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir over the period.
