KARACHI: Sindh government is contemplating to assign electricity inspectors, in every division of the province, to protect power consumers against possible exploitation, said provincial minister for energy, Imtiaz Ahmad Shaikh.

Addressing the officials associated with the directorate of electricity inspectors here Friday, he said public complaints related to overbilling, tripping of electricity and voltage fluctuation are the common complaints and these have to be addressed on sound and sustainable basis.

Additional Secretary for Power, Sindh Energy Department, Asif Ikraam, Director Reconciliation, Azizullah Memom, electricity inspectors of the directorate and other relevant officials were also present on the occasion.

Sindh Energy Minister said there was urgency to upgrade the directorate on modern lines so as to provide the much needed relief to the masses.

He extensively discussed the needed administrative restructuring of the facility, reorganization of the same, expansion of its network as well as the problems faced by the employees of the directorate.

Shaikh said unwarranted surge in average billing, repeated fluctuation and tripping are the commonest complaints which are also not baseless hence have to be efficiently monitored and addressed.

"Sindh government is highly sensitive towards the issue and is committed to getting these amicably solved," said the minister.

The meeting after extensively deliberations recommended that HESCO and other power supply companies functional in the province must be compelled to meet the set criterion with regard to quality and sustainability of the supply complimented by its efficient maintainability.
