The 8th Muharram-ul-Haram procession which was taken out Monday morning from Nashter Park ended at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar peacefully after passing through traditional routes, amid tight security. The procession passed through Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan. M.A.Jinnah Road, Preedy Street, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar, Kharadar, Nawab Muhammad Khanji Road and reached its destination at Hussainian Iranian Imambargah after sunset.
Earlier police and other law enforcement agencies blocked the main MA Jinnah Road and adjoining streets by placing cargo containers. Traffic was not allowed to proceed towards the route of the procession from Guru Mandir (Roundabout). Black flags and banners inscribed with religious scriptures in hands amid loud sorrowful poems and slogans being played at roadside stalls. The mourners continued beating their chests through the rally.
Staffers of rescue services, ambulances, fire brigade and bomb disposal squad were also available, besides officials of local administration to redress complaints regarding civic facilities. Over 4030 policemen besides some 480 personnel from NGOs performed duties to maintain law and order during the religious event. However, alternate traffic arrangements were made by the traffic police for the convenience of vehicles approaching the route of procession.
