Pakistan has potential to increase its export to Argentina at significant level. According to the study conducted by Pakistan Business Council (PBC) on South American countries, Argentine's trade with Pakistan has been increasing during last three years as its exports to Pakistan amounting to $397.8 million while imports reaching a moderate value of $55.8 million in 2015.
In 2015, Argentina's imports amounted to $59.79 billion whereas exports were $56.75 billion. Major imports consist of machinery, vehicles other than railway, electrical and electronic equipment and mineral fuels. Residues and waste of food industry, vehicles other than railways, cereals and oil seed are the top exports of Argentina in 2015. Pakistan's top exports to Argentina consist of manmade staple fibers, toys, games and sports requisites and other textile articles, sets and worn clothing.
On the other hand, residues and waste of food industry, animal and vegetable fats and oils and oil seed are top exports of Argentina to Pakistan. Since the signing of the Pakistan-Mercosur agreement in 2006, annual growth rate in trade from 2008 to 2012 has been 4 percent. In South America, Argentina is the second largest trading partner of Pakistan after Brazil.
In 2015, Pakistan could have imported goods worth $2.01 billion from Argentina and had the potential to export another $640 million worth of goods to Argentina. Argentina's Ease of Doing Business Index has dropped in the past year from 117 in 2015 to 121 in 2016. However, a highly skilled workforce and abundant natural resources has attracted a lot of investment in the country. Argentina ranks fourth in South America in terms of FDI stock and sixth in terms of FDI influx, it added.
