The mourning procession of 9th Muharram culminated peacefully amid improved security arrangements by the government. The main procession was taken out from Nishtar Park around 12 noon which ended at its destination - Hussainian lrañian Imambargah in Kharadar after passing through its years-long traditional routes Mehfil-e-Shah-e-Khurasan, M.A.Jinnah Road, Preedy Street, Boulton Market, Bombay Bazar, Kharadar, and Nawab Muhammad Khanji Road.
Earlier an Alam procession was taken out from Markazi lmambargah Liaquatabad that ended at Martin Road Imambargah and thereafter, it came to Nishter Park. In his speech to the city's central Majlis at Nishtar Park, renowned scholar Allama Talib Johari shaded light on sacrifices of Imam Hussain and his loyal companions that they rendered in the soil of Karbala for the noble cause of prevalence humanity and justice.
He asked participants of the procession to follow their footsteps and never bow down to any cruelty, brutality and unkindness. Law enforcement agencies were put on high alert and large contingents of police and Rangers were deployed for security of the procession. IG Sindh Allah Dino Khwaja, Director General Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar and Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra visited the main procession at M.A. Jinnah road separately to review security arrangements.
Bilal Akbar on this occasion told media persons that the paramilitary personnel are alert to thwart any untoward incident. He asked the law enforcement agencies to make joint efforts for the establishment of durable peace in the metropolitan. All kind of traffic was blocked and not allowed to proceed towards the route of the procession from Guru Mandir (Roundabout). However, alternate traffic arrangements were made for the convenience of vehicles approaching the route of procession. Entry of vehicles and pedestrians to all roads and lanes connecting the route of the procession were completely sealed by placing containers. Earlier, the Bomb disposal squad also carried out sweeping of the route of main procession. All encroachments had already been removed from entire route and all shops and markets were sealed.
Staffers of rescue services, ambulances, fire brigade and bomb disposal squad were also available, besides officials of local administration to redress complaints regarding civic facilities. Cell phone and mobile internet service remained available throughout the day however; the government intends to suspend it on 10th Muharam-ul-Harram for security purpose.
