Khyber-Pukhtunkhwa moved further on CPEC to ensure that full benefit from the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is secured for the people of KP in the long-term as well as medium-term. With the establishment of peace in the province and FATA and the defeat of terrorism the economic development of the province tops the agenda of the provincial government.
A high-level meeting of the KP Advisory Committee on CPEC was held on Thursday at the Chief Minister's Secretariat to reinforce the alignment between all stakeholders, to achieve this goal. All the major Departments of the Provincial Government, KP Board of Investment & Trade, KP Economic Zones Development & Management Company were present at the meeting.
The meeting of the KP Advisory Committee on CPEC was chaired by Ghulam Dastagir. The Secretary Industries KP will now act as the secretary of the KP Advisory Committee on CPEC. KP's medium and long-term plans for economic development will be considered in alignment with CPEC infrastructural projects so that maximum benefit from such 'once in a millennium opportunity' could be derived. Also, the province will continue to pursue meaningful, carefully-considered infrastructural projects for execution as part of CPEC programme.
For this various measures for full alignment of all the stakeholders in KP were considered. To this end, a "CPEC Cell", CPEC & Economic Development office, has been immediately created in the Chief Minister's Secretariat to co-ordinate and facilitate all matters related to CPEC and to keep alignment with the Province's economic development goals.
To accelerate KP's economic development, steps will be taken to operationalise the Province's Mining Policy, Tourism Policy and the Industrial Policy in letter and spirit. To grasp an early advantage, KP will aggressively move forward on enabling KP companies, businessmen and entrepreneurs, in alignment with international players in the areas of Power, Construction Materials, Construction, Services, Logistics and Transportation, Tourism & Hospitality, Gemstones and Jewellery, Mining, Dairy and Livestock, Agriculture and Food, Manufacturing and IT. KP Advisory Committee on CPEC will also engage with various trade bodies, district bodies and the public on various forums to exchange ideas that can become part of the plans.
