The Embassy of the Republic of Korea is celebrating October as 'the Korea Month' to commemorate the Foundation Day of Korea. Various events will be organized by the Embassy for promoting economic and cultural cooperation between Pakistan and Korea throughout October. According to an official of the Embassy, the first event will be the Hangul Proficiency Test, which will be held at National University of Modern Languages (NUML) on October 16. Hangul is the Korean alphabet created by King Sejong for the purpose of facilitating reading and writing of the general population.
On October 18, the Embassy will host a discussion among representatives of Korean companies in Pakistan on the ways to boost bilateral trade and direct investment. On the evening of the 18th, the Embassy will host its annual Foundation Day and National Armed Forces Day Reception at the Korean Ambassador's residence. The reception will be held in the beautiful garden of the residence and bring together dignitaries from not only the diplomatic corps, but also political, media and economic communities of Pakistan.
On October 20, NUML in Islamabad and King Sejong Institute will host an event in commemoration of the Hangul Proclamation Day. The event will include a short film to feature the history of Hangul, a sampler of K-pop music and Korean cooking etc.
For the evenings of the 20th and 21st, the Embassy has organized a cultural event in Islamabad and Rawalpindi respectively to entertain the residents of the twin cities. The event will feature a performance by NoreumMachi, one of the best known Korean music groups.
In addition, these shows will include a performance by Yong-Bu Ha, an internationally acclaimed artist and dancer, who has been declared as one of the intangible cultural assets by the Korean Government. On the 24th and 26th, a famed Korean novelist Sang-kukJeon will deliver a lecture on "Why do I write novels?" in a school in Murree and NUML respectively. The lecture will give students a feel for Korean literature and insights into the thinking process that inspires and motivates novelists.
On the 25th, a seminar on the SaemaulUndong (New Village Movement) will be held at a hotel in Islamabad. The movement is considered to be one of the most important driving forces for the remarkable economic development and transformation of Korean society. Professor Un-sung Jeon and Professor Yong Yoon will share their knowledge and expertise of the Movement. The event is being held in collaboration with the National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) and its CEO, Rashid Bajwa will join the speakers. From the 26th to 28th, the Ambassadorial Taekwondo Championship will be held at the Sports Complex of Islamabad.
