Arshid Mehmood Kiani, a notable senior lawyer, has been appointed as Deputy Attorney General for Pakistan (DAG). According to a notification of the Ministry of Law and Justice Division, his appointment to the post of senior law officer (General-IV) was made after the President of Pakistan in exercise of the powers conferred by the sub section 1 of the section 2 of the Central Law Officers Ordinance 1970 (VII of 1970) accorded his approval.
Kiani, a holder of LLM from United Kingdom, had served in Islamabad Bar as the senior member and general secretary. Arshid Mehmood Kiani thanked Law Minister Zahid Hamid, Special Assistant for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Barrister Zafarullah Khan and Attorney General of Pakistan Aushtar Ausaf for expressing confidence in him and said he would use all his capabilities and experience to come upto expectations.
The political and legal circles have also appreciated the decision of his appointment.
PML-N Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq, former Senator Syed Zafar Ali Shah, former member National Assembly Anjum Aqeel Khan, State Minister for CADD Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, President High Court Bar Association Tariq Mehmood Jehangiri, President District Bar Association Syed Tayab Hussain Shah and other lawyers congratulated Arshid Mehmood on assuming responsibility as Deputy Attorney General.
