The Lahore High Court chief justice on Wednesday issued notices for November 4 in a petition seeking directions for transfer of trial of a British national Samia Shahid, allegedly killed in the name of honour. The petitioner's counsel said his client Syed Mukhtar Kazim had to leave the country owing to serious life threats from the suspects including the father and first husband of Ms Shahid.
They are influential people of the city and can affect the trial proceedings, he added. He said the joint investigation team formed in the case also recommended transfer of the trial from Jhelum. He therefore asked the court to transfer the trial of suspects to Lahore. The family of Samia Shahid had claimed that she died of natural causes. Kazim, however, alleged that Samia was murdered by her family in the name of honour.
