The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Wednesday suspended the proceedings on National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) due to absence of its Managing Director from the meeting. Syed Khursheed Shah chaired the meeting of the PAC. The briefing of Managing Director NICL was on the agenda item of the meeting. The committee gave 10 minutes to MD to appear before the committee but he failed to appear.
The committee termed his attitude non-serious and a breach of privilege of Parliament and referred the case to the Speaker National Assembly for further action. Meanwhile, the committee constituted a five- member special committee to chalk out a strategy to ensure that the participation of Principal Accounting Officers (PAOs) in the proceedings of the parliamentary accountability body. The committee would chalk out a strategy in collaboration with Speaker National Assembly to strengthen the audit mechanism of the Parliament.
