Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman has said that false propaganda is being fanned against the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. He said the construction of Karakoram Highway has opened new avenues of progress for the people of Gilgit Baltistan.
The chief minister was addressing the annual get-together of Gilgit Baltistan Student Council (GBSC) on Friday. While addressing the ceremony, Rehman said with the construction of Karakoram Highway, there had been significant change in all sectors of the region. He said the provinces experiencing politics of provincialism at the cost of nationalism could not make progress.
He said they were setting up eco-economic zone at GB and the region would be connected to three more express ways. He said this year almost one million domestic tourists visited Gilgit Baltistan. India invested money to stop the construction of Kala Bagh Dam, otherwise the country could have benefited from it and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa could have avoided flood-generated damages every year. He said Gilgit Baltistan is rich in cultural diversity but the enemies of the country are using it for destroying the peace of the region.
The biggest challenge for the incumbent GB government was to restore peace to the whole region. He thanked Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for helping the government and the people of Gilgit Baltistan with the money of tax payers of the people of Punjab.
He said the first-ever MRI machine worth Rs 320 million donated by Shahbaz Sharif would be inaugurated soon in GB.
