Gilgit Baltistan (GB) government will replicate e-vaccination, Punjab's Safe City and police projects to eradicate polio, terrorism and crime. The Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman said this during his visit to the Punjab IT Board (PITB) here Friday. The Chairman PITB Dr Umar Saif, who is also vice-chancellor of IT University Lahore, briefed him on the diverse ICT interventions initiated in Punjab.
Hafeez was acquainted with ICT interventions in the fields of education, health, law & order, e-governance and citizen facilitation services. Talking to media, Hafeez thanked PITB and Punjab government for extending generous support towards Gilgit Baltistan. He said, "The modern technology has brought change in almost every sector of the Punjab government and we hope that they will equally be helpful in GB. We want to make GB free from polio, crime, disease, illiteracy and terrorism and looking forward towards the Punjab government to assist us through flagship projects of PITB." He said the GB government is already working in collaboration with the Punjab government in many fields. "I am highly inspired by the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and seek guidance from him to make GB more efficient. The work done by Punjab government in e-Governance is remarkable for that other provinces are benefiting from it."
The CM GB criticised former federal government for spending huge money on a futile Safe City Project in Islamabad while lauded Punjab government on completing the same program with more CCTVs at less cost. Expressing keen interest in setting up IT infrastructure in the province with the help of PITB, CM Gilgit Baltistan appreciated CM Punjab for his dedication towards building a progressive nation. Earlier, during a detailed presentation, Dr Umar Saif said, "We are already assisting federal, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Baluchistan and AJK government in adopting ICT interventions. Recently CM Sindh and Prime Minister AJK visited PITB in this connection."
