Collector Customs, Peshawar Qurban Ali said the government would establish a modern customs station in near future at Torkham. He said new plan had been fully materialised to enhance revenue, besides booting up trade activities.
Addressing at an opening ceremony of overhead bridge in Torkham on Thursday, Qurban Ali said the government was striving hard to facilitate traders and that was the reason that a full-fledged and well-equipped modern terminal would be functional in Torkham in January 2017.
Flanked by Additional Collector Yousuf Haidar, Deputy Collector, Torkham Fazal Shakoor and Chairman Frontier Clearance Agents Association Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi, the Collector said accessing to Central Asia's markets was the main target therefore speedy clearance services were being set up for the business community. He added that scanners, web base on customs (weboc) system had been introduced at customs centre, Torkham border and days were near to come when Torkham would rise as modern customs station.
Qurban said that special software had been prepared to start weboc export in Torkham Customs House. He pledged that no development scheme would be launched without endorsement of local tribesmen and they would not be ignored. Senior Manager of National Logistic Cell (NLC) border terminal, Colonel Iftikhar Shinwari (Retd) also spoke on the occasion. Large numbers of members of Torkham Clearance Agents Association attended the gathering.
