Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) and the customs department Wednesday claimed to have seized biggest-ever cache of narcotics worth Rs 1.5 billion, at Gwadar. The action was taken on credible information that a huge quantity of narcotics would be smuggled from international sea route. Reacting to this information, PMSA deployed its ships and fast response boat at the western maritime region. Subsequently, PMSA spotted a suspicious boat Wednesday night near western international maritime boundary line.
During examination of the boat, around 2,400 kilograms of narcotics worth Rs 1.5 billion was recovered which was dumped into hidden compartments of the boat. The seized narcotics along with nine smugglers were handed over to the Customs department for further legal proceedings. The officials said this was joint operation of PMSA and Customs collectorate Gwadar. Further investigation was under way.
