Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Engr Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said repatriation of temporary displaced persons (TDPs) is in process which will be completed till the end of this year. He was addressing the MoU signing ceremony between UNHCR and FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) here at Governor's House, Peshawar on Thursday.
According to this MoU, UNHCR funded cash assistance of 1.45 million dollars will be provided to FDMA to facilitate vulnerable people of South Waziristan Agency, Kurram and Orakzai agencies. Country representative of UNHCR, Indrika Ratwatte and GOC 45 Engr Division Major General Anwaar-ul-Haq were also present besides the Additional Chief Secretary FATA, DG, FDMA, Political Agents of South Waziristan, Kurram and Orakzai Agencies, and officials of FATA Secretariat.
While appreciating UNHCR's support for FATA, the Governor also mentioned provision of 2,500 tents and 10,000 sheets to almost 4,800 affected families of South Waziristan Agency, Kurram and Orakzai agencies and thanked it for the generous support. The governor said that government was well aware of the problems and difficulties of tribal people and every endeavour would be taken to utilise all the available resources for their complete rehabilitation. He said that no efforts would be spared to ensure proper rehabilitation of TDPs, adding that steps were being taken to bring the tribal people into mainstream, so that they could actively participate in development of Pakistan.
