The 4th International Dental Conference was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah on Friday at Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences Jamshoro. The chief minister further mentioned that the issues raised by the conference this year deserve praise and compliment. Unfortunately, the statistics of traffic fatal accidents and causalities are very high in Sindh and most of the causes are vehicle colliding, speeding and avoiding precautious driving measurements.
He added that in this age of modern medical and dental sciences, there is a dearth of understanding for a linkage between education and research. The CM announced to increase the number of paid slots of Postgraduate Students enrolled at LUMHS from 265 to 500.
Pro Chancellor/ Minister Health Dr Sikandar Ali Mendhro, who was the Guest of Honour said on the occasion that the conference will help to accomplish three major objectives. First creating awareness, particularly among conference participants belonging to the younger strata of society about emerging issue of maxillofacial trauma caused by road traffic accidents.
Second, the conference will make a difference in terms of exploring opportunities for conducting path breaking research in dental and medical sciences in order to address maxillofacial issues which are a cause of social backwardness, ignorance, economic under-development, frustration, anger, antagonism, violence and terrorism in the countries. Third, the challenge of excelling in the world of knowledge cannot be denied particularly when the gap in science & technology between the developed and the under-developing world is widening at a faster pace. He added that the facial trauma causalities could be minimized in our society by strictly following the traffic rules and developing public awareness towards primary precautions and first aid measurements after the roads traffic accidents.
