Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) would follow the Bangladeshi and South Korean models for setting up of labour colonies on first floor of the factories to enable female workers to contribute to the national economy and look after their homes. Speaking at a meeting of the company's board of directors on Friday, the PIEDMC chairman Rizwan Khalid Butt said that decision has been taken to involve more and more female workers in the country's development.
The women are 52 percent of country's population, out of which only 6 percent are contributing as factory workers in Pakistan. The provincial government has introduced a number of laws for protection of female workers on workplace, he said.
