Denouncing the Federal Board of Revenue and the Finance Ministry for opposing Prime Minister's Rs 170 billion packages for exporters, the value-added textile industry has asked the prime minister to announce the package without any further delay, appealing him to accept responsibility for controlling the freefall of textile exports.
New Chairman of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufactures & Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz Khokhar on Friday said the value-added textile industry would welcome the PM's decision only when it is implemented. "We hope the government will fulfil its commitment this time to restore the confidence of the exporters. If a medicine is not given immediately, it would be useless after the collapse of industry." The Prime Minister's Rs 170 billion package should be implemented immediately because every passing day is crucial for the industry at a time when export has been constantly declining, he added.
He also asked the government to honour its pledge to clear pending tax refunds of exporters without any delay. "Incentives will not be effective until Prime Minister takes ownership of exports till the next general elections as policy implementation is not seen anywhere," The PRGMEA Chief said. He stated the Prime Minister should appoint a full time minister for the textile industry as early as possible so that he could play proactive role.
