Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Khalil Tahir Sindhu said that Punjab government is promoting public-private partnership to create maximum job opportunities. He said urban clusters can serve as engines of economic growth and provide employment to labour force if their potential is fully developed. The minister was addressing a conference "Management Accountants Conference 2016" organised by the Institute of Cost & Management Accountants of Pakistan (ICMAP) on Friday.
He said urban centres house more than 40 percent of the total population of the province. In order to develop potential of urban clusters, the government needs to improve mobility and provide low cost housing, clean drinking water and sanitation. Therefore, priority is also being given to funding projects in these areas.
Sindhu said the government is making all out efforts to end the energy crisis. He said last year the Chinese president had visited Pakistan and signed agreements to start a number of energy projects. Under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, coal, solar, wind and hydel power projects will be set up all over the country. Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Dr Syed Ismail Shah has revealed that the internet penetration in Pakistan has reached 15 percent. "Recently the present government has issued a long-awaited telecom policy, marked as landmark document by industry experts for the incorporation of numerous measures to accelerate the digitization in the country," he said.
Muhammad Iqbal Ghori, President ICMA Pakistan, on behalf of Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan emphasized on the importance of preservation and facilitation of textile sector from the government. "The global trend of the audit profession has opened up and in most of the developed countries including UK, Canada and Australia there are more than one accounting bodies who have equal rights for statutory audit. Keeping this in view, if management accountants are given the opportunity, they can boost up the profession by eliminating the monopoly and monotony, providing people a proficient choice to the existing alternative," he added.
