Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police Sunday claimed that it recovered 5 Kalashnikov rifles, a pistol, 6 magazines, a bullet-proof vest, alcohol and 3 teargas shells from Ali Amin Gandapur. Gandapur, who is Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Revenue in Pervez Khattak administration, was intercepted by police at a check post on Rukhsana Bangash road when he was on his way to Bani Gala, to participate in Islamabad lockdown on Nov 2.
Police searched the car and claimed to have recovered arms and munitions from the minister's vehicle. However, the police let Gandapur go, but detained his driver and impounded his vehicle.
The interior minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan also confirmed recovery of weapons and liquor from the vehicle of the provincial minister.
He said that the recovery of weapons from the provincial minister reflects their intention what they plan to do on November 02.
PTI chairman Imran Khan strongly reacted to Chaudhary Nisar's remarks about his minister and said that his party minister has life threats due to which he keeps licensed weapons.
"He [Gandapur] has life threats...a PTI minister was killed by Taliban in Dera Ismail Khan and this is the reason he needed the weapons while travelling inside and outside DI Khan," he added.
Talking to media, Gandapur rejected police claims, saying he was travelling with two licensed Kalashnikovs, and there was a license present in the car.
Police recovered the license, he claimed, adding that the police let him go. About the liquor, he said that it was not liquor as there were seven bottles of honey.
"There's no truth in whatever the police is claiming. I'm ready to quit if proved guilty. The police have arrested my official security guards along with their weapon," he added.
Gandapur said that that government has resorted to dirty politics, adding the police arrested his official security guards along with their vehicles.
"Do whatever you like but you [government] can't stop us and we [PTI] will come with full force on November 2", he added.
He maintained that it is their democratic right but the government is using the police as its personal army to harass political workers which will be resisted.
