Hamid Khan-led Professional group's candidate Rashid A. Rizvi was elected as President, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), for the year 2016-17. Rizvi defeated Asma Jahangir group's candidate Farooq H. Naek. Rizvi secured 1289 votes against 1060 bagged by Naek.
Rizvi was mainly supported by lawyers affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Jamaat-i-Islami and a faction of PML-N lawyers' wing. Lawyer's wings of PPP, PML-Q, ANP and JUI-F backed Naek. PML-N lawyers' wing majority members also supported him.
Rizvi has been president of Sindh High Court Bar Association four times and a sitting member of Pakistan Bar Council. He is a former judge of the Sindh High Court and was sacked for not taking oath under 2000 PCO promulgated by military ruler GenPervez Musharraf (redt).
Aftab Ahmad Bajwa of the Professional group was elected as secretary. He obtained 1060 votes against Safdar Hussain Tarar who secured 945 votes.
