The Lahore High Court on Monday reserved its verdict in petitions against locking down of Islamabad by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). The court also called detailed reply from the Punjab government regarding arrest of PTI's workers.
The petitioner A. K. Dogar said Imran Khan had announced to lock down Islamabad. He alleged that Imran Khan was trying to topple the government on the signals of third empire.
All state institutions would be closed due to PTI protest in Islamabad, he said. He further said freedom of speech did not mean to attack the national security.
He also argued that Imran Khan was violating his oath by making efforts to remove an elected government. He, therefore, asked the court to stop the PTI from launching such protest.
During the proceeding, the PTI's counsel Ahmad Awais said that Khan's statement was misunderstood as he only meant to say that since a large number of people would be entering the federal capital, it would virtually lead to closure of the city.
The counsel said that the party decided to hold protest against corruption after it was revealed that Sharif family had offshore companies.
PTI city president Walid Iqbal advocate contended in his petition that their protest was peaceful but the government was harassing the protesters even police entered into his house by using stairs.
Former Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal, mother of Walid, also told the court that she had informed the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) about the police action. At this, the court asked the AGP that what action was taken against those police officials who replied that he came to know about this right now.
The court observed that they would issue an order to know that what actions were taken against the perpetrators.
AGP Ashtar Ausaf said PTI was protesting against corruption while the matter was in the court. He said SC had issued notice to all parties.
