Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has attained a regularity of 99 percent during past few months; a top airline official said here on Monday. Speaking at a weekly meeting of Rotari Club Karachi, CEO PIA Bernd Hildenbrand informed that improvements were being made in every department of the airline to bring PIA in the top 100 airlines of the world.
He said that reliability was most important for an airline and the efforts of management and the employees, during the past few months had encouraged PIA to attain a regularity of 99 percent while the airline on-time performance had now reached to 85 percent, which was second only to Saudi Airlines in the region.
Bernd further stated that PIA employees were being asked to change their mindset and focus on customer facilitation and added that PIA had recently launched a mobile app in addition to make PIA available on Expedia and Travelocity.
He said that management was laying special emphasis on the cleanliness of aircraft and the airline was targeting to have a fleet of 60 aircraft by 2020.
He said PIA was also planning to increase its flight frequency to Paris, New York, Kuala Lumpur, Jeddah, Beijing and Toronto while starting new flights to Barcelona, Leipzig, Salalah and Bangkok.
Moreover, Bernd said that PIA was considering a separate dedicated unit for taking care of hajj and Umrah operation and apprised that PIA had transported around 52,000 passengers during hajj with more than 95 percent special hajj flights going on or ahead of time this year. PIA's Directors for Fleet Planning, Amir Ali and HR, Wing Cmdr Raheel Ahmed (Retd) were also present on the occasion.
