PPP's Faisal Raza Abidi arrested outside Supreme Court
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) former senator Faisal Raza Abidi was arrested on Wednesday for his anti-judiciary remarks.
The PPP senator was arrested outside the SC premises and taken to the Secretariat police station, local media reported. Earlier, Abidi appeared before the apex court for a contempt case hearing. During the hearing today, Abidi informed the court that his lawyer was in Saudi Arabia and requested the bench to adjourn the hearing.
The bench accepted his requested and adjourning the hearing, issued notices to Abidi and the deputy attorney general.
A case was filed against Abidi for his statements which he made during an interview. He had used defamatory language against the Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar and also insulted the judiciary.
