Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) prevention day or world iodine deficiency day observed in the agency headquarters hospital Ghalanai. Inauguration ceremony of IDD day were attended by Assistant political agent Upper Mohmand Agency, Haseeb-Ur-Rehman, Assistant political agent Pir Abdullah Shah, Agency Surgeon Dr Shahad Muhammad, Agency Nutrition Manager Farman Ullah, Senior Medical Officer Dr Raza Ullah, lady health workers and health staff.
On the occasion an awareness walk was also held in the premises of the agency headquarters hospital.
Agency Nutrition Manager Farman Ullah said that the basic aim behind this day is to create awareness of adequate use of iodine and to highlight the consequences of iodine deficiency in the tribal region.
He told that iodine deficiency disorders have become a major public health problem world-wide and a large number of populations are at the risk of iodine deficiency disorders.
The Nutrition expert said that iodine is a micro nutrient which is required for the human growth and development. He urged the teachers, students and tribesmen to support (USI) Universal Salt Iodization programme in schools as well as community level in the areas. "Self promote regular use of iodine in your homes and willing to do this with your friends and class fellows "said Farman.
