Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel late on Tuesday killed nine suspected terrorists and seized arms and explosives from them in Sheikhupura. The CTD team conducted a raid in Khairu Ki Maliyan area of Sheikhupura, a CTD spokesman said. The exchange of fire between the two sides left nine 'terrorists' dead. Officials said that nearly four to five accomplices of the deceased terrorists managed to flee during the gun battle.
The counter-terrorism personnel also seized arms, ammunition and explosives from the dead terrorists. "The cache included five Kalashnikovs, five handguns, several rounds and 6 kg explosive material," officials added.
The CTD sources said that the terrorists were Al Qaeda members who were planning to target police and intelligence agencies offices in the city. On October 16, six terrorists affiliated with an outlawed organisation were killed in an encounter in Sheikhupura.
