Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Thursday said that despite passage of seven months, the children of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif are still seeking time, "which shows what they want in Panama leaks scandal."
Talking to journalists outside Supreme Court building, he said, "they [government] were supposed to do give a reply today, but no reply about the three children [Maryam, Hassan, and Hussain] were submitted to the court," and they want more time despite passage of seven months".
"Nawaz Sharif submitted his reply, but his children didn't. Why they didn't submit their reply? If the children had submitted their replies, then the link could have been established," he added.
He recalled that the prime minister pledged that he was ready for accountability, but when the courts started accountability, his children did not submit their replies, and sought more time.
He asked: "I want the whole nation to see all. We've been pressing for accountability of the prime minister in the Panama leaks....Sharif stated on the floor of National Assembly that he's ready for accountability, and when the accountability started, why replies are not being submitted. Why the delay?"
The second point which Khan said that the 'courtiers' of Nawaz Sharif had said that they would not challenge the maintainability of the petition, "but today they challenged the maintainability of the petitions through attorney general for Pakistan."
However, he said that the court declared that the petitions are maintainable, adding the way Attorney General for Pakistan is contesting the cases of the Sharif family is not acceptable.
"I congratulate the whole nation for this that the court declared our petition mainatainable despite government objection....how the attorney general can fight the case for 'corrupt' Sharif family? You [government] had been saying that they are ready and Nawaz Sharif has presented himself for accountability. Why do you run away? The attorney general is drawing salary from the taxpayers' salary, and he isn't there to fight the case of Sharif family," said Imran.
Citing some documents submitted by Asad Kharal, an investigative journalist, to the apex court, he said that the documents submitted by Nawaz Sharif in the court are "fabricated", which the journalist had brought to the notice of the court.
To a question whether the prime minister should stay in the wake of the inquiry initiated by Supreme Court into Panama Leaks, he said that Sharif has lost moral ground, which makes him unfit to rule the country, and he should step down unless the court completes its inquiry.
Khawaja Asif, the minister for water and power, said the prime minister had submitted himself for accountability, and now the court will decide who is right and who is wrong.
