Planning and Development Department Punjab and the Urban Unit on Monday jointly organized a seminar on "Innovative Construction Techniques" to discuss the impact of technological innovations on construction industry in Punjab through cross-sharing of information between the government, commercial organisations and service providers.
Secretary Communication & Works Punjab Mian Mushtaq Ahmed chaired the seminar while Chairman P&DD Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan, Secretary P&DD Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Member Infrastructure Board P&DD Dr Abid Bodla and CEO the Urban Unit Dr Nasir Javed also spoke on the occasion.
The seminar had four technical sessions discussing global applications of innovative construction techniques in contemporary construction industry: micro-tunnelling, building information modeling (BIM), segmental bridge construction, advanced construction management techniques, use of reinforced earth technologies for slopes stabilisation and control of landslides, use of geo-grid for pavement optimisation, rubber dams-pilot project for revival of degraded river channels in Punjab.
The known experts from construction industry of Pakistan and abroad like Gary J Hall Project Manager Vinci Construction, Bong Hwan Lee Vice President Korean Institute for Health Architecture, Dr Ijaz Nabi, LUMS/Advisor to CM Punjab, Sohail Kibria Vice President Geo-Technical & Geo Environmental Engineering Division, NESPAK and Murtaza Khan Chartered Engineer made their presentations.
Chairman P&DD Board, Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan speaking on the occasion said the provincial government aims to equip domestic construction industry, consultants, contractors, and clients with latest tools and techniques matching the highest contemporary standards of quality, proficiency, cost effectiveness, disaster reliance and engineering economy in the related areas of planning, preparation, execution and implementation.
The seminar was attended by engineers, architects, contractors, academia, government departments, urban-planners and developers and environmentalists working in private sector organisations.
