Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has expressed displeasure over an inquiry committee constituted by the government to investigate a controversial story carried by Dawn on October 6. Talking to media on Tuesday, Khursheed Shah said, "the formation of committee is nothing more than an eye-wash." He said if the government was serious in an inquiry, it should have sought names from opposition parties for constituting an inquiry committee.
The opposition leader said the committee was constituted under a former Justice Asmer Raza, adding that his daughter had been working as vice principal at Sharif College. He also claimed that "the people in the federal government were involved in security leaks." He said that political parties would not accept the inquiry committee. He said the decision of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan to withdraw lockdown call had strengthened the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) government.
He said that while the PTI workers were being thrashed on the streets, their leader had ensconced himself in his Bani Gala residence. He said Imran was in the habit of backing out from his statements. "This practice disappoints workers who have great expectations from their leaders," he added. "We always talk about the parliament as the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) believes that all the decisions should be made in the parliament which is a democratic institution of the country," he remarked.
Khursheed Shah said the PPP would protest in the parliament over the Panama leaks issue which is a proper forum of parliamentarians. He said the government wanted the opposition to go to Supreme Court to delay the issue of the Panama Papers. He said the PPP did not take Panama Leaks issue to Supreme Court, adding he did not expect an apex court decision on the Panama leaks case in 20 days.
