The Karachi Port handled 149,568 tonnes of cargo comprising 114,894 tonnes of import cargo and 34,674 tonnes of export cargo including 7,284 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday The total import cargo of 114,894 tonnes comprised of 46,906 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,975 tonnes of general cargo; 23,404 tonnes of total bulk cargo: 14,426 tonnes of coal; 8,320 tonnes of DAP; 658 tonnes of soda ash and 35,609 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 34,674 tonnes comprised of 30,999 tonnes of containerised cargo; 150 tonnes of general cargo and 3,525 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 7,284 containers comprising of 3,713 containers import and 3,571 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,114 of 20's and 1,071 of 40's loaded while 23 of 20's and 217 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 916 of 20's and 306 of 40's loaded containers while 365 of 20's and 839 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There was one ship namely Lion M carrying oil tanker sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Great K, MT Quetta, Mare Forum, Glovis Magellan, Lombardia and Tian Shan carrying oil tankers, fertiliser, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were two ships namely Ital Millions and Han Ren carrying containers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday while five ships namely APL Coral, Cape Marin, High Fidelity, Tian Shan and Le Hi carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively are expected to sail on Thursday.
There were three vessels viz. Wan Hai-501, Orient Phonix and Ocean Pescadores carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Wednesday while four vessels viz. Cosco Fukuyama, Chemway Arrow, MT Lahore and CT Confidence carrying containers, oil tankers and chemical respectively are due to arrive on Thursday.
The total export cargo of 20,247 tonnes includes 3,763 tonnes of cement; 600 tonnes of rice and 15,884 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 3,231 containers comprising of 2,395 containers import and 836 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
There were two ships namely CV Maersk Columbus and MT Al-Salam-II carrying containers and diesel oil respectively sailed out to sea on Wednesday morning, while two more ships namely MT White Purl and MT Black Purl carrying LPG respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of eight vessels viz. CV Maersk Columbus, CV Silvana, MV Diamond Sea, MV Hoanya Wisdom, MV Cretan Wave, MT White Purl, MT Black Purl and MT Al-Salam-II currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, rice, project cargo, Sunflower seeds, LPG and diesel oil respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as nine ships namely MV Thai Binh Bay, MV BBC Luanda, MV Kavo Platanos, MT New Confidence, MT Ibn Sine, MT Bahra, MT New Naxos, MT Shalamar and MT Genie carrying rice, sunflower seeds, project cargo, diesel oil and furnace oil were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim on Wednesday. There were five vessels viz. CV Maersk Genos, MV Lime Glaxy, Globe Tanya, MT New Naxos and MV Velor carrying containers, chemical, LPG, furnace oil and palm oil expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Wednesday. There were three ships namely CV CMA CGM Corneile, CV Maersk Innoshima and MV Unico Siemma carrying containers and fertiliser respectively due to arrive on Wednesday.
