Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif has hinted at retirement of chief of army staff General Raheel Sharif as he said on Thursday that new army chief would be chosen from among the senior generals. Speaking at Aaj News talk show 'Faisla Aapka' hosted by known anchor Asma Shirazi, Khawaja praised army chief General Raheel Sharif, saying that he was leaving behind a matchless legacy. "Thank You Raheel Sharif," he said. However, he added, former generals Ahmed Shuja Pasha and Zaheerur Islam caused harm to institutions.
Commenting on the statement of Opposition leader Khursheed Shah, he said four (or five) senior generals were commissioned on same date in Pakistan Army and if new chief is not appointed from among these senior generals, then Opposition and media had the right to criticise the government but not before that.
