The Edhi Foundation has sought permission for establishing its own 'morgue' in the provincial metropolis to accommodate more than 500 dead bodies including the unidentified ones during any emergency situation. Edhi Foundation's Chief Faisal Edhi had written a letter to the DIG Investigation Ayyaz Saleem some two months back but received no response till date, sources in the Edhi Foundation told Business Recorder, here the other day.
The sources said that Faisal Edhi had proposed the said project to materialise the dream of late Abdul Sattar Edhi, his father. When contacted, the spokesman of Edhi Foundation confirmed it but regretted that they had received no response from DIG Ayaz Saleem or his office despite the passage of over two months. He revealed that the administration of Mayo Hospital is charging Rs 1,000 to 1,200 for preserving dead bodies in mortuary for 24 hours but, he said, the Edhi Foundation charges only Rs 1,000 for three days.
