Closure of wine shops in Sindh: appeals filed in Supreme Court against SHC order

Appeals have been filed in the Supreme Court on Monday against the Sindh High Court's directives to shut down all liquor shops in the province. The Sindh High Court has issued directives to the provincial government to close down all liquor shops across the province while disposing of two petitions in the matter.
The SHC in its order asked the authorities concerned for issuance of licences after detailed scrutiny and adopting the mechanism but at the same time the provincial government was also asked to keep the licences cancelled until final scrutiny of the eligible vendors.
Filing petitions on behalf of Kohistan Wine Shop and six others, senior Advocate Asma Jahangir submitted that everybody was not authorised to sell the liquor in Sindh because it was subject to a proper licence. She said that liquor was only sold to those who have permit to use it whereas she urged the apex court to allow the appellants to sell the liquor till final adjudication of the matter in hand.
