The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has launched a national campaign, 'Competition Advocacy Academia Drive', aimed at creating awareness of the competition law among the students and faculty members of the universities. The campaign also seeks to introduce to the universities a 16-week module on "Economics and Competition Law" developed by CCP in collaboration with the King's College London.
The module is being taught in one of the leading universities of Pakistan and several other academic institutions have shown interest in introducing it as an elective subject in their curriculum. The Academia Drive includes a series of seminars in 33 leading universities of Pakistan where CCP teams will hold interactive sessions with the faculty members and students of economics, management sciences and law. Presentations by CCP will explain the salient features of the Competition Law, its history and evolution and the role of Competition Law in enabling the country to compete in the global economy.
The Academia Drive will also establish a linkage between the academic institutions and CCP that will be mutually beneficial for both in the area of research. Moreover, it will open an avenue for universities to send their students for internship with CCP and get training in key areas of Competition Law.
The Academia Drive is being conducted in continuation of the advocacy programme of CCP under which a successful 'National Road Show on Competition Law' was completed in January 2016 where the CCP teams visited 22 cities and held around 40 interactive sessions in the chambers of commerce and trade associations. CCP is mandated under Section 29 of the Competition Act to create awareness and understanding of the Law and take advocacy measures that may lead to creating a culture of competition.-PR
