The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday adjourned the hearing in disqualification references filed against Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan and PTI General Secretary Jehangir Khan Tareen till December 5. The date was extended on the plea of PTI lawyer Advocate Naeem Bukhari who requested the court to grant more time to submit Imran Khan's reply.
Hamid Khan also recused himself from representing Imran's case in ECP after parting ways with the Panama Leaks case at the Supreme Court. Talking to media persons, Naeem Bukhari said that Hamid Khan is among the founding members of PTI and he personally likes him. He further said that he would still be seeking guidance from him.
Meanwhile, Jehangir Tareen urged the ECP to take action against the petitioner for levelling baseless allegations against him in the reference forwarded by the Speaker National Assembly. The reply submitted by Tareen stated that State Bank of Pakistan had cleared him over the loan waiver whereas the tribunal's verdict in tax evasion case was also announced in his favour; therefore, the baseless reference should be dismissed.
The non-submission of reply from the PTI chief was severely criticised by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders. Daniyal Aziz said that Imran is running away from the courts of law. First he (Imran) changed his lawyer in the Supreme Court and now he did the same in the ECP, he added.
Talal Chaudhry said that Imran always tries to escape whenever a reply is sought from him. He (Imran Khan) always talks about accountability and now he should present himself for accountability, he added.
Referring to a recent wedding in London which Imran attended along with Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor, Chaudhry said that it seems that Imran wants to work in a Bollywood movie. Responding to this, PTI spokesman Naeem-ul-Haque said that the two leaders (Aziz and Chaudhry) are leading the youth astray. "We will file a petition against them for violating Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution," he said.
