Pakistan on Tuesday summoned the top Indian diplomat and lodged a protest on the continued unprovoked ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) and violation of Pakistan's Maritime Exclusive Economic Zone by the Indian naval submarine. According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Director General South Asia and SAARC Dr Mohammad Faisal.
He said the DG South Asia and SAARC strongly condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations on November 21, 2016 by the Indian occupation forces on the LoC's Jandrot, Nikial, Karela and Baroh sectors, resulted in shahadat (martyrdom) of four innocent civilians and injured 10 others. He stated that the deliberate targeting of civilian populated areas is deplorable.
According to him, the director general also condemned the violation of Pakistan's Maritime Exclusive Economic Zone by the Indian naval submarine on November 14, 2016, in violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The director general urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding and UNCLOS, investigate the continued incidents of violations and instruct the Indian forces/authorities to respect the ceasefire and international borders in letter and spirit.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson rejected the Indian media's claims as false and baseless regarding alleged mutilation of an Indian soldier's dead body on the LoC. "These reports are a fabrication and a blatant attempt to malign Pakistan," Zakaria tweeted, adding as a professional force, Pakistan Army is not involved in any such unethical and non-professional activity and neither supports any such action.
However, he stated that Pakistan is fully prepared and ready to respond to any misadventure across the LoC and Working Boundary (WB) or International Border. "Factually, India constantly violates 2003 Ceasefire Understanding, targets civilians and tries to divert international attention from its atrocities in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK)," the spokesperson further tweeted.
