Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that the government did not do anything, which derail democracy. Talking to media at tea in Ashgabat on Saturday, the Prime Minister said: "many times he was asked to resign, but we are not elected to resign". He further said that they did nothing which might derail democracy. The prime minister said that the politics of a certain party was taking the country backward instead of taking it forward.
He regretted that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) was returning to the politics of 90's. He said that the country could not afford to be run the way it was being run for the last 70 years. Nawaz said that the PML-N had run a movement for restoration of independent judiciary. He said that they even participated in an election, which was held under the interim set-up appointed by the then General Musharraf. He said: "In 2008 my and Shahbaz Sharif's nominations papers were rejected and despite that the PML-N went into the polls and they did not raise any hue and cry of rigging."
