Federal Minister for Finance, Senator Ishaq Dar Saturday said, "The PML-N government remains fully committed to improving governance through bringing in more transparency and integrity in its operations and fight against corruption." The Minister made these remarks while signing the Letter of Intent of the government of Pakistan to join the Open Government Partnership (OGP).
He added that, "This commitment is demonstrated by the fact that, in addition to the government's initiation of process to join OGP, the Government has already signed the OECD Multilateral Convention on anti-tax evasion in September, 2016." OGP, consisting of 70 participating countries, is a multilateral forum where governments deliberate and work together to promote transparency, fight corruption and strengthen governance through new technologies.
The Finance Minister said that he has accepted the invitations of United Kingdom and French Governments to attend the 4th biennial OGP Global Summit at Paris from 6 to 8 of December, 2016. The Letter of Intent has been sent to OGP Secretariat expressing the intention of the Government of Pakistan to join OGP and commitment to respect the open government principles articulated in the Open Government Declaration of the OGP.
