US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security (USPCAS-AFS), University of Agriculture Faisalabad has opened a Community Outreach Centre at Chak No 189 RB Rasoolpur, Chak Jhumra, Faisalabad. The Centre, aimed at providing the consultancy to the farming community about methods to increase productivity, was established under the USPCAS Outreach Chair. Rana Azam Khan, Chairman Union Council 189RB with other dignitaries inaugurated the Centre.
Dr Babar Shahbaz said USPCAS-AFS had opened six Community Centres in each tehsils of Faisalabad district and Okara. He said those centres were meant for providing access to the farming community through ICT tools so that they could seek guidance regarding there farming problems.
Dr Izhar Ahmad Khan said that per acre production in the country was very low compared to the rest of the world. He said agriculture sector was directly linked to poverty alleviation and food security and we have to promote the latest trends in the agriculture sector to compete the world. He said the University was making out all efforts to educate the farming community about the latest methods among the farming community.
Chairman UC Rana Azam Khan lauded the efforts of USAID for opening Community Outreach Centre for the betterment of local farming community. He urged the need for opening such centres at UC level so that local farmers could be benefited through information technological tools. Dr Saeed Ahmad, Dr Sardar Alam, Dr Shahid Ibn-e-Zameer, Dr Atif Randhawa and Dr Qamar Bilal spoke on the occasion. Mian Liaquat Ali, Muhammad Yaseen, Muhammad Shoaib Yousaf, Haji Qazi Abdul Razzaq and Haji Muhammad Saleem also attended the event.
