The Karachi Port handled 177,055 tonnes of cargo comprising 141,180 tonnes of import cargo and 35,875 tonnes of export cargo including 5,591 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.
The total import cargo of 141,180 tonnes comprised of 38,463 tonnes of containerised cargo; 26,288 tonnes of general cargo; 33,184 tonnes of total bulk cargo: 13,069 tonnes of coal; 17,059 tonnes of DAP; 3,056 tonnes of sunflower seeds and 43,245 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 35,875 tonnes comprised of 25,596 tonnes of containerised cargo; 10 tonnes of general cargo; 9,519 tonnes of total bulk cargo: 4,519 tonnes of rice; 5,000 tonnes of talcum powder and 750 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,591 containers comprising of 2,813 containers import and 2,778 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 978 of 20's and 819 of 40's loaded while 01 of 20's and 98 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 563 of 20's and 502 of 40's loaded containers while 147 of 20's and 532 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were six ships namely Shanghai Trader, Kota Kamil, Taroko, Seadream, MT Karachi and Nord Missouri carrying containers, oil tanker and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were six vessels viz. Ever Diamond, Kota Kamil, Wan Hai-506, Milos, MT Lahore and Chipol Huanghe carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were four ships namely MSC Capri, Milos, Hermione and Al Mahboobah carrying containers, oil tankers and chemical respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday while five ships namely Ever Diamond, YM Excellence, Smart Sail, Darleakay and King Corn carrying containers, seeds, rice and DAP are expected to sail on Friday.
There were six vessels UAFL Zanzibar, Xin Zhang Zhou, MT Quetta, Lady Venus, Al Dasma and Global Hope carrying containers, oil tanker, mogas and coal respectively due to arrive on Thursday while another vessel viz. Al Farahidi carrying containers is due to arrive on Friday.
