Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has signed an 'environmental pollution control' agreement with a Mexican organisation in order to prevent the city from climatic hazards.
"Deputy Mayor Karachi Arshad Vohra and the Chief Executive of the foreign organisation signed the agreement during the International Mayors' Conference," said a KMC official here on Sunday.
The 5-day event 'Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy' is being held in Mexico City. Pakistan is the first South Asian country that has signed the environmental protection deal, Deputy Mayor was quoted by the official as saying.
The official said that Pakistan especially Karachi was facing severe issues relating to environmental pollution due to various reasons such as presence of industrial zones, heavy traffic, and lack of rainfall, here.
This situation has caused different kind of diseases among the citizens.
He stressed on the need that all should come forward and protect Karachi from the environmental pollution.
