Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak while emphasizing the need of community sensitization against the fatal disease of thalassemia has vowed for initiating proper legislation to make pre marriage test compulsory to prevent the disease effectively in the province.
This he said while addressing as chief guest at the 11th National Thalassemia Conference held at Khyber Medical College Peshawar under the auspices of Thalassemia Federation. Health experts presented their research papers on the causes and preventive measures of thalassemia on the occasion. Doctors, thalassemic patients, their parents and volunteers from all over the country attended the meeting. Organizers of welfare bodies and thalassemic patients also addressed the conference.
The chief guest administered oath to the newly-elected cabinet of the federation on the occasion. The Chief Minister while addressing the conference appreciated contribution of the welfare bodies for the treatment of thalassemic patients and termed it a nobel endeavours.
Underlining the need of effective measures and conducting indigenous research for prevention of thalassemia, the Chief Minister said that diseases were always spread due to human faults or environmental causes. He pinpointed the need of right and targeted steps for the prevention of diseases. He asked health experts and volunteers to create will of struggle and spirit of resistance against the disease in the patient. He remarked that this would enable the patients to live with dignity for a purposeful life.
He also lauded the selfless efforts of the anti thalassemic organizations for the welfare of humanity. He said that Islam also had denoted us to render services for the betterment of mankind. Pervez Khattak termed utilization of time and resources for the welfare of ailing humanity as worship adding that Allah Almighty would reward such nobel efforts. He underlined the need of collaborated steps for the rehabilitation of needy and poor patients.
