KP Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that the sixty percent population of the country comprises of the youth whose right to exercise their verdict as registered voters was also of national importance. He stated this while addressing a grand ceremony to observe the National Voters Day as per initiative of the Election Commission of Pakistan at Governors House, Peshawar on Wednesday.
Former Justice Irshad Qaisar, Member, Election Commission of Pakistan and the provincial Election Commissioner Mussarrat Khan also addressed the ceremony. Provincial Senior Minister, Enayatullah Khan, MPAs Shah Hussain and Maaraj Hamayoun as well as vice chancellors of different universities and a large number of students were also present on the occasion. The ceremony was followed by a walk.
Highlighting the importance of casting votes by a vast majority of voters in the election process, the Governor said that it is must to strengthening the democratic system in the country.
Importance of casting votes is also must for sustenance and consolidation of democratic process, since it is the best way to bringing a positive change in the system of governance in the country, he remarked. While referring to election arrangements in FATA, the Governor said that participation of the respective people on the adult franchise base has been ensured and as per the proposed reforms process, the local government elections are also supposed to be held by the end of 2017 in FATA. This, he said, will be another big step of the government to bringing the people of FATA in the mainstream for ensuring their more effective role in the national affairs.
