Punjab Governor Malik Rafiq Rajwana on Friday said that elimination of corruption from the country needs a passion like Zarb-e-Azb and the National Accountability is performing well but there is always a room for improvement in the performance of institutions.
Addressing a seminar hosted by Multan Region NAB Directorate in connection with international Anti Corruption Day at Multan Arts Council, the Governor said that excess of power, prioritising influential over common man and not performing assigned duties are also sort of corruption. The focus should be on solution to the problems of lay man because common people are living in hopelessness. The public department gives due respect and dignity to common person.
Governor said the corruption has become a shameful menace and destroying the country. The corruption is not lesser harmful than terrorism and the whole nation should unite to eliminate corruption as it's also Jihad. He said Islam discourage corruption and warned for strict punishment on giving or receiving bribe. He said people should remember teachings of Islam on corruption.
Speaking on the occasion Multan Region NAB Director General Farooq Nasir said that elimination of corruption needs collective efforts and fight against it with the national spirit. The vice chancellor of Bahauddin Zakariyia University Professor Dr Tahir Amin said corruption is a major obstacle in country's progress and uplift. The corrupt elements are destroying the nation and country. The society cannot be developed until prevention from corruption. He said the educational system cannot be reformed until the elimination of corruption.
Speaking on the occasion Multan Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Khawaja Jajaluddin Roomi said that corruption has been major hurdle in the way of swift economic growth. Multan Press Club president Shakil Anjum also spoke on the occasion and said lust and greed in the society were promoting corruption. He said complete elimination of corruption is a hard task but it might be accomplished. Prizes, shields and awards were distributed among the position holders who had taken part in competitions held on the topic "Elimination of corruption."
